Darsha Hewitt

I have been pleasantly surprised by many of Darsha’s projects, especially the ‘Electrostatic Bell Choir’ and the ‘DIY Sonic Loophole Generator’.

In “Electrostatic Bell Choir”, an old television set to mute is silent, but when a bell is placed in front of it, you will find that it has a sound, or more accurately, a frequency, but one that the human ear cannot pick up. After seeing this work, I was curious about many objects around me. One of Darsha’s most creative aspects is that she has taken control of these sounds and used them to create a great melody.

“DIY Sonic Loophole Generator” is a piece that made me realize that sound can create sound. It made me think about what different sounds can be combined. But to my regret, I found that only electronic sounds could be distinctly heard. Perhaps it is not that other objects do not create new sounds, but that they are not heard by the human ear.
