Group Project Log -1
I’ll tentatively name our group project Nostalgia, as the theme of our project is nostalgia.
When I first saw the theme, I thought of some snacks I had as a child. But in the end, I didn’t go in that direction.
We discussed the five parts that make up the whole audio: birth, childhood, school periods, growing up and periods we knew about but didn’t go through. I chose childhood. At first I was worried that it wouldn’t resonate with people because my childhood might not be the same as most of my classmates’. But then I thought I couldn’t tamper with my childhood.
This is an experience from my childhood, which I have tried to show in sound. Summer afternoon was always hot and I would pedal children’s skateboard to the small shop in the alley every afternoon to find the owner of the little shop. The shop owner was an older man who loved Chinese opera and would sometimes sing follow the opera. I knew the shop well, so I went in, got an ice cream and sat next to him. We sat in front of the shop, watched the uncrowded alley and heard cicadas chirping. I always liked to keep the ice cream in my mouth and then go and play with the new toys in the shop. When I finally worked out how to play with this toy, it was time for the evening. The younger who shows the film comes by on his bicycle and reminds me that the evening open-air film is ready to start. I thrown away the ice cream stick I’d been keeping in my mouth. Then I followed him. When we arrived at the open-air cinema in the neighborhood, people had brought their own stools and placed them in front of the screen. Then the film started to be shown.
I actually think there are some regrets about this sound clip. Some of the sound effects were not implemented, such as the sound of the rocking chair that the shopkeeper sits on, and the sound of the fan (a fan made of cattail leaves). Perhaps if I can go out or have more time to find and buy some props, I could have made the sound effects for this sound clip richer.
