Group Project Log -2
I’m actually very passionate about making an audio sound real and vivid, and giving the listener the feeling of being there. I don’t know why I have this obsession, maybe it has something to do with my previous experiences in film and television sound, or maybe it has to do with my love of playing VR games. If a game like the one in the film《Ready Player One》 could actually be developed, I might want to live in the world of gaming all the time.
Back to the sound clip I did this time. I did some work on the left and right channels and volume to make the experience sound more realistic. As I walked into the small shop to get my ice cream, and then sit next to the small shop owner, the sound I heard changed as I walked around. When I walked into the shop the owner and the radio were to my left. And then as I walked into the shop and walked closer to the freezer, the owner and the radio were naturally further away from me and the freezer sounded louder. I turned around to come out with my ice cream and the sound of the owner and the radio naturally came to my right. As well as the sound of bicycles from far and near. I hope that these ways make this experience sound a little more real and vivid.
I had a discussion with Thomas some time ago about memory. For example, if it’s a band rehearsal, we may not remember the whole scene of the day, but we may remember the guitar very well. The whole band rehearsal scene is a blur, only the guitar is clear. What this guitar looks like and how it sounds. This view I agree and I like this concept a lot.
Memory is vague, but the feeling of having experienced something is clear. We may not be able to remember exactly what happened, but we may remember a smell or a sound, and these elements can often awaken our feelings about that memory. The things we experienced in our childhood are certainly different for each of us, and we may not even remember them, but we may remember the feelings about our childhood. The childhood I remember was a period of simplicity and joy, and that is how I feel about childhood. So I hope this sound clip will awaken some people’s childhood memories, or will resonate with some people, or will allow some people to experience a different kind of childhood.
