Spatialisation for Installation and Performance Week 4 – Shilpa Gupta at The Barbican
This week we followed Ingrid to an exhibition by Shilpa Gupta at The Barbican called Sun at night.
This exhibition opened my eyes to another possibility for multi-channel exhibition. The speakers were in the shape of microphones, suspended from the ceiling. On the floor stood pole after pole, each with a piece of paper on top, the content on it was from a different country and a different language. I stood in the middle of the sound, not knowing which direction the next sound would come from me. A sound would cause voices from all different directions. In this dim night that sound was not really alone, that was how I felt at the time. In retrospect, depending on the name of the exhibition, that voice could be the sun in that dim night.
