Week 9 – Feedback on tutorial
Today, Tim showed a short video of a standard 5.1 mix project in class and I noticed that the method Tim used was different to Ingrid’s. I discussed this with Tim during our tutorial. The only difference is that the GRM spaces 5.1 plug-in can make the sound move and follow a set track at a constant speed. I plan to use both methods in my session.
Tim looked at the stereo version of ‘blue’ and told me some of his ideas. Add a cut off at the end of the first recollection, as well as the part at the end of The bar, weight the reverb of the bell to make the difference between real and non-real space a little more obvious.
When I got home I started revising these two areas. The music is a piano solo and retains the sound of the pedal board. I chose to use this sound. After adding this sound, I found it to be fitting to the picture and to have a sense of suddenness. I watched the reactions of the main character coming out of his memories in the later sections and only this section had a noticeable pause after the main character came out of his memories. In the last part of The bar, I gave the bell’s voice a reverb and added a delay, as well as removing the previous ambience sound after entering the memory section (after the images overlap).
