Recording stage of Blue
At the time of filming, I was using the Roland R44 recorder and the Sennheiser MKH 416 microphone. Because there were no lines in this short film, I didn’t use a lavalier microphone. The director told me to try to use the sound recorded during the shoot, so we tried to keep the set as quiet as possible while we were shooting. And I would record an ambient sound of the scene after the shoot, which was very useful when I was processing those sound files later. This time I didn’t just record the ambient sound, I also recorded the sound of some of the props in the room, such as the sound of the vinyl record player, the sound of the drain, the sound of the wall clock and so on. I also asked the actor to stay behind and record a few breath sounds. And at the beginning of the film, the scene is a window and we hear the sound of the man coming out of the toilet and closing the door. I recorded that part of the sound in that scene. Most of the sound material that was recorded at the time was used.
Not all of the sounds were recorded during the filming stage, some of the sounds were recorded after I saw the edited video. Most of the sounds recorded at this stage were from the memory footage, as I didn’t intend to keep the original sounds from the memory footage.
