Work Description: Some sounds in our homes that seem perfectly normal to us in our daily lives are devastating noises to some mothers suffering from postpartum depression. Postpartum depression cannot be ignored and mothers need the care and attention of their family members. I hope that this installation will allow visitors to experience a small part of what mothers go through. It doesn’t fully simulate all that mothers go through, just like a labor pain simulator doesn’t fully simulate what it’s like to give birth.

Tech Specs:

  • 8 speakers (preliminary plan): surround sound system
  • A single sofa

Sound elements: (Extremely quiet room ambiance and shrill sound)

  • Washing machine or hoover at work
  • Alarm clock
  • Baby cry
  • Beeping of appliances(oven or dishwasher) finish work
  • Sound of husband watching TV or playing games
