An opportunity by Soundlands in 2015
My guess is that Jenna Burchell’s proposal won the commission.
Firstly, Jenna has made very clever use of the city’s architecture, choosing buildings that are inextricably linked to the everyday lives of local people. There are many interesting stories that happen in these neighbourhoods, stories that are unique to each community. She records these stories and seals them in the buildings so that the locals can go and listen to them whenever they want. Another proposal also mentions exploring and recording the stories of local people. But Jenna not only did this, she also restored the buildings.
Secondly, she prepared Plan B and Plan C, this is a very careful performance. Her meticulousness can also be seen in her timetable and budget sheet. The timetables and budget sheets she gave were really detailed and she was very clear about what she wanted to achieve and what she wanted to get out of it.
In fact, compared to the other group’s proposal, Jenna’s work is not as interactive as the live one. Because the other group will use the radio to interact with passers-by in real time. However, this format is not unique to this city, which means that it can be used in any city. But the building Jenna has chosen is unique to the city, and the sound belongs to the city because it is attached to the buildings in the city, not to the internet or CDs. This is the third reason why I chose Jenna.
