Work Description: We imagine the sound world in the landscape painting, we imagine the sound world experienced by Cyborg. We can only imagine these unknown sounds because we did not live in that time and we are not Cyborgs. What is the sound world we imagine? It is an ideal Space-time.

We prefer Plan B. Visually, two horizontal paintings will look more comfortable and harmonious than one vertical and one horizontal, and we can blend the two paintings together better. The second landscape painting I chose is also by a Song Dynasty painter, and it is also a very beautiful piece.

Design concept:

  • On the left is a landscape painting from the Song Dynasty, with my imaginary sound world playing in the headphones. On the right is the Esquisse d’ensemble chosen by Jiachen, with her imaginary sound world playing in the headphones. In the middle, the two paintings merge together. A new space-time, and we try to imagine this Space-time’s sounds.
  • We kept the hearing aid concept from Jiachen. As Jiachen says in her blog, ‘the hearing aid was very much a tool to connect two worlds.’ So we chose to use headphones, the act of putting them on is like putting on a hearing aid, to listen to a new world through the device.
