Element 2 Worklog 1 – Sound of wands (4.19-4.25 worklog)
The workflow of this time is: first, record the footage that needed sound effects in UE4; second, create them in Protools; finally, import the created sounds into UE4 and adjust them for volume and spatiality.
For the first week, I started with the skills of the player-operated character, the elite sorcerer of the human kingdom. The wizard’s skills are released through his wand which has four attributes: purple is the element of darkness, orange is the element of fire, blue is the element of ice and yellow is the element of lightning. There are two types of wand attacks, one is charged attacks, which requires a few seconds of chanting before the skill can be released, and another one is fast attacks, which allow the skill to be released directly. So for charged attacks, I need to create three sound effects, one for when the skill is stored, one for when the skill is fired, and one for when the skill hits. For fast attacks, I would only need to create a skill launch sound effect and a skill hit sound effect. The game now has a total of 13 wands.
To create the sound effects for the wand, I used sounds from the sound library, selected a few sounds from the appropriate elements, tweaked them, and combined them into a new one.
