Element 2 Worklog 2 – Monster Sounds (Worklog 4.26-5.2)
The main sounds created this week were the sounds of the monsters in the game, each of them required more than four sound effects. The first is the monster’s usual scream, the second is the monster’s scream when it finds the player and enters battle, the third is the monster’s death sound, and the last is the monster’s attack sound. The attack sound is generally divided into two, one is the sound when the attack is launched, and another one is the sound of the attack hitting. In this game, the monsters’ attack hit sound effects are uniformly used, one for magic attack hits and one for physical attack hits.
The monsters are now ten in total.
The first is Bat when I made all its sounds with a reference to bat sounds. I searched for realistic bat cries and used these as a base, mixed in a high-frequency noise, and tweaked it to what it is now presented as.
The second is Evil Mega, I imagined this as a withdrawn old man with a strange mantra on his lips when I create his voice. So I asked my boyfriend to say some sentences (no language) that was inaudible and vague, and then import them into the software to tweak them.
The third is Golem, a robot. So I went for a mechanical, electronic element to the sound.
The fourth is Orc, a typical in-game melee monster, whose sound was created with the feel of a large wild man in mind.
The fifth is Plant, the attack is a bite, so I naturally imagined a cannibalistic flower.
The sixth is Skeleton, who have the sound of bones loosening and clashing as he walks around. I like his death sound effect, the wail of the undead (but I feel like it’s the sound of a soul finally being relieved and dissipated). And in this game Skeleton doesn’t leave his bones in place after he dies, they scatter to the ground and then turn to dust and disappear.
The seventh is Slime, a green bubble, so uses the sound of bubbles bursting and gurgling liquid.
The eighth is Spider, the reference sound to the sound of a spider.
The ninth is Turtle, a combination of a hedgehog and a turtle. At first glance, he’s a very defensive tank-type monster, so a lot of sounds were chosen to make him sound hardened.
The last is Boss(Dragon), which has four attacks, they are all related to the fire element.
When I finished all of them, I found that in addition to the four sounds mentioned at the beginning, I matched each monster with a sound as it moved, either a footstep, a sound made by rubbing against the ground as it moved, or the sound of flapping wings. Every movement that can be seen should have a sound, it makes it feel a little more realistic.
This week, in addition to the monster sounds, I’ve added some sounds, such as attacks hitting walls or characters, and the sound of a magic attack hitting is different from a physical attack.
