Project 1 – Sound design preliminary plan

Regarding the sound design scheme for this production, the director wanted two different environments to exist in this production, one that is presented in the picture and one that is not present in the picture. Is it the sound environment of this location at different times in the picture? Or what Maiy perceives the location to be like?

The mismatch between picture and sound creates a sense of disconnection; Maiy’s monologue is not necessarily linked to the picture scene. Moreover, the presence of two different soundscapes in one frame brings about a sense of disconnection and alienation. It is difficult to bring the audience into the film with this kind of sound and picture design.

So we chose to put Maiy’s inner world into this scene, where the mood of the inner world is the same as the mood of the monologue. We wanted the audience to be able to enter Maiy’s emotions, to see the film from Maiy’s point of view, and to get to know the world as Maiy sees it, the cold, alienated, strangely disappointing world.

The key word in the sound design of this piece is disconnection and social alienation. The main sound elements involved are Voice, diegetic sound, and non-diegetic sound.

Then the next plan is to process the filming phase recording sound. Recording and processing of monologue, Defining and testing the sound system.
