Project 1 – Practice 2
This is stereo version, but stereo system does not separate the two sound worlds. And I also tried to use 5.1 to produce it and compared to stereo, The sense of space it brings is obvious, but the two worlds are still intertwined. The traditional film sound system didn’t meet my needs, so I decided to try a different set of options – multi-channel system. And another reason for choosing multi-channel is that it brings more immersion. I would like the viewer to be able to enter more directly into the atmosphere and feel these emotions.
Pink is the monologue position, yellow is the non-diegetic sound position, and purple is the diegetic sound position. The outside circle is a 7.1 sound system ,and the inside circle is 8channel surround sound, with the audience standing in the central to watch the film.

At the film’s beginning, the vocals are closest to the viewer. An 8-channel surround system plays the sound of Maiy’s inner world, and a 7.1 surround system plays the sound of the picture world. No matter how much the world inside changes, the world outside is dead silent.

As the progress bar of the film progresses, the human voice slowly moves into the outside world or back into the inside world with the sound of some objects. For example, if the sound of a lift is in the right front speaker, the sound will be present in both the inside and outside worlds, at which point the vocals will diffuse from the sound in the 8-channel system on the right front to the sound on the right front of the 7.1 system outside. These objects are the lift and possibly the train whizzing by, the trolley going from left to right, and so on. In and out is tied to the mood of the narrator. The audience can move along with the monologue and feel the changes in sound.

Eventually, the inside and outside worlds will become deadly silent, and the human voice fades into this silence.
