Appraisals – The third element
I found two Chinese game companies open to international graduates for campus recruitment, and they are also interesting to me.
The first is MiHoYo, a Chinese game development company founded in 2012 and headquartered in Shanghai. The company’s games cover multiple platforms, including PC, console, and mobile devices, and its game brands include popular titles such as “Honkai Impact” and “Genshin Impact”. “Genshin Impact” features an open-world design, combining elements of role-playing games, action combat, and exploration, allowing players to explore a vast world, collect various characters and equipment, and complete quests and challenges. Open-world games were the subject of my last paper, and the “Genshin Impact” is a game I always play. I am very interested in the sound production of open-world games, which attracted me to this company.
The second one is Aurogon Info&Tech (Shanghai) Co., a Chinese game development company, which developed a game called Sword of Legend that got me interested in the game’s sound effects. Sword of Legend is a role-playing game that has slowly moved closer to an open-world game format from the first to the current third installment. The company is developing and producing the fourth game in the Sword of Legend series, so I was interested in working for them.
Working with these two companies would give me experience in creating sounds for open-world games.

Now it’s time to check both companies’ application requirements and the available audio positions.

Let’s start with a summary of my current game-related skills, I can proficient with mainstream sound DAWs (Protools & Logic & Adobe audition), have experience working in a recording studio (recording, mixing and falsetto), and have the ability to create sounds using digital synths, proficiency with game engine software Unity, Unreal Engine 4. The Mihoyo requires candidates to provide game sound effects works, which I can provide. During my undergraduate years, I worked with game design students on three games, both 2D and 3D, and during these collaborations, I learned the game engine software. For Aurogon Info&Tech (Shanghai) Co., I have no experience in game audio development. However, I will be applying for campus recruitment. In addition, I have recently had the pleasure of working on one of their 2D games called “Afterimage”, where I was responsible for editing the Chinese voice. So I feel that Aurogon Info&Tech (Shanghai) Co. has a bit more chance of success, although it’s not always possible to get into the project team I want to be in.
