Natalja Vikulina: Lines of Correspondence

Yesterday Jiachen and I went to visit Natalja Vikulina’s VR exhibition, which was very interesting. In the middle of the exhibition hall was the VR experience area, and on the surrounding walls were Natalja’s paintings related to this project from the beginning to the end, from the hand-drawn line drawings to the final computer 3D finished drawings. I liked the initial line drawing, although it was in black and white without any colour, it was spectacular to my eyes. And I was also impressed by a pair of sketches with gold borders on a black background.

Afterward, when I was experiencing the VR equipment, as it was my first time using it, I was a bit unsure how to operate the left and right-hand grips, and it was always easy to go to a dead-end and then get stuck and not get out. Natalja was very nice though and let me play a few more times. I found out that in the VR world Natalja created, walking to different places triggered different sounds, and Natalja told us that the whole game contained seven? eight? (I forget the exact number) of different noises.

All in all, it was a very novel experience.
