Week 19: Follow-up exercise
Since for essay I intend to explore the influence of the Midi Festival on Chinese rock music, I chose to talk to my friend about Chinese rock music for this interview.
Q: Do you have any knowledge of rock music in China?
A: I don’t usually like to listen to rock music. All the rockers which I can remember is Jian Cut and Feng Wang.
Q: You mentioned that you don’t usually like to listen to rock music, is it because you can’t accept rock music?
A: Not really, but if listen to rock music once in a while, I still enjoy it. I think it’s a great experience to listen to rock music at a music festival. But I don’t usually listen to rock music because it puts pressure on me and I can’t feel comfortable, so if I listen to this type of music all the time, it’s quite uncomfortable.
Q: We mentioned Jian Cui’s music before. If it’s not heavy metal rock music such as the music like Jian Cui’s song, would you be able to listen to it in your daily life?
A: This type of rock music is acceptable to me. But Jian Cui’s songs are too old, I think.
Q: In the last two years, through the TV program ‘The Big Band’. We have also know many new rock bands, among which there is other rock music like electronic rock and folk rock. Would you choose to make such music your daily song list?
A: I haven’t watched the program, so I’m not really sure what kind of rock music is out there now.
Since my friend hasn’t watched this TV program, I chose a few songs from this show that I like to play for him.
A: If it’s this type of rock music, I’m okay with putting it on my daily list, but I don’t play it very often. It’s a lot lighter sounding than metal rock, but the rock feel is still there.
I also asked a lot of people afterwards about whether they could accept rock music or not. I found that most young people nowadays are actually able to accept rock music (including heavy metal rock). Compared to our parents’ generation, rock music is now much more accepted for young people. There are still too many people haven’t heard of rock music in these last few years. Only rock fans will pay attention to new rock bands and new rock music.
